Andaman Islands
The capital and administrative centre of this little known archipelago, Port Blair, was off limits to non-Indian visitors for decades and the adjacent Nicobar Islands, unfortunately, are still closed to foreign visitors, but that still leaves hundreds of islands to explore. When you do choose to wander, it will likely be by ferry. When the salt cuts the waves and dolphins shimmer in front of the next oncoming Eden, you'll know you've found a wholly unexpected island allure to India.
All foreign tourists need a permit to visit the Andaman Islands, and it’s issued free on arrival. The 30-day permit (which can be extended to 45 days), allows foreigners to stay in Port Blair. Overnight stays are also permitted on South and Middle Andaman (excluding tribal areas), North Andaman (Diglipur), Long Island, North Passage, Little Andaman (excluding tribal areas), Havelock and Neil Islands.
The permit also allows day trips to Jolly Buoy, South Cinque, Red Skin, Ross, Narcondam, Interview and Rutland Iaslands as well as The Brothers and The Sisters. You won’t be able to travel around without your permit.
PLACES TO VISIT
There's no way anybody could describe the beauty of this place in mere words. It's one of those cases where YOU just need to be there to understand its beauty. Each island has its own unique charm, you can always find a spot that's "just for you".
PORT BLAIR
It is the only Entry-Exit point and houses the Airport. This is the center of the Administration and the most developed of the islands. It is connected to all the islands.
