Lakshadweep Islands
AGATTI ISLAND
Agatti Island is known as the gateway to Lakshadweep islands. The airport is built on this island. From the aircraft, as one approaches for landing, one gets a breath-taking view of the airstrip on the island. The island is 8 kilometers long and a kilometer wide at its broadest part and, at places quite narrow and has a population of about 8000 people. You need a permit to visit the islands. Once you book your stay, you get the permit.
Agatti is simply awesome with its green lagoon. The almost transparent water of the lagoon is a beautiful turquoise. You just can't take your eyes off the water. The first thing you can do after settling down, is to hire a glass bottom boat and take a peek into the colorful aqua-world under water.
You will soon be mesmerised by the outstanding beauty of what lies below the warm azure sea. There are so many types of coral and plant life to see, including vivid purple and red coral, clams, tropical fish of all shapes, colours and sizes, and sea cucumbers. Turtles are in plenty in the lagoons and keep coming close to the shore to feed on sea weeds. You can see them when they lift their heads to breathe.
At Agatti you can indulge in scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, glass bottom boat rides, water skiing, deep sea fishing. And if this is not enough you can take a tour to one of the uninhabited islands like Kalpitty, Bangaram, Thinnakars, Parali I and Parali II.
