MARWAR FESTIVAL (October)
This annual event showcases the art and culture of the Marwar region of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Spirited folk dancers gathered here, perform with zest and entertain the audience with Rajasthani folklore. These folk artistes bring to life the myth and legends of the area and sing songs in memory of their brave heroes. Other attractions of the festival include horse riding and horse polo.
PUSHKAR CATTLE FAIR (November)
Thousands of people-cattle traders, shopkeepers, merchants, dancers, musicians and artisans congregate at Pushkar for a four-day long event which holds the distinction of being India’s largest cattle fair. The festival looks like a riot of colors with men wearing colourful turbans and women in pleated ghagaras of different hues. Camel beauty contest is another highlight of the festival.
HAMPI FESTIVAL (November)
The Hampi festival is a grand spectacle of dance, drama and music amidst the ancient ruins of Hampi, the majestic capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. During this gala event, the quaint life of Hampi reverberates with dance, drama, music, fireworks, puppet shows, and spectacular processions all combining to recreate the legacy of its royal heritage. Artists from different parts of India congregate here to weave a magical blend of art and culture. During the festival, Hampi metamorphoses into a sea of humanity with people descending here to enjoy the cultural events.
KONARK DANCE FESTIVAL (December)
Eminent classical dancers from all over the country get together to pay tribute to a master piece in stone-Sun temple at Konark. The festival is a celebration of the much appreciated Odissi, Bharathnatyam, Manipuri, Kathak and Chau Dance. Konark Dance Festival takes place in an open-air auditorium against the backdrop of the floodlit temples that reverberates with the beats of 'Raga' and 'Tala', the sounds of classical music.
