Pranpur Village - Madhya Pradesh
Pranpur village is situated at a distance of 110 km from Jhansi in Madhya Pradesh. It actually lies on an upland profile, southwest of the Betwa river. Surrounded by hills, lakes and forests, Pranpur boasts of many monuments of the Bundela Rajputs and Malwa Sultans.
A large population in Pranpur is part of the weaver community and work at producing the Chanderi fabric. Chanderi is famous for its traditional motifs and fragile pastel colours, which is hard to match. The characteristic feature of a Chanderi Saree lies in its fragile lightness, pastel hues and beautiful motifs. Special care is taken by the master weavers to create these beautiful sarees with the weavers usually working in a dark underground room of which the walls are kept damp to prevent dust flying about. And while the delicate texture of the saree is a result of the fine hand spun yarn, the amazing motifs trace their inspiration to the stunning Chanderi temples.
Apart from weaving, Pranpur is also known traditional crafts such as bamboo weaving, stone cutting and pottery. There is a 500-year-old step-well in Pranpur which was built by an old woman out of the meagre earnings from her hand-mill. Significantly, people firmly believe that if anyone is prevented from drawing water from this baoli on caste prejudices, the well water will become polluted with insects. The infestation vanishes only when the prohibition is removed.
There are quite a few place of tourist interest, which one can explore on a trip to Pranpur. Chanderi Fort located on a lofty hill was built by the Muslim rulers of Chanderi. Koshak Mahal is another interesting place to visit. It was built during the reign of Mohammed Khilji but could not be completed during his life time.
Parmeshwar Tal to the north-west of Chanderi was built by Bundela Rajput Kings. An ancient temple and scores of memorials are located close to this impressive water tank.
A rural heritage resort named "Amaree" has come up at Pranpur, with all necessary tourist facilities and special attraction of horse riding. |
